Silver jewelry makes up more than 50% of the company's sales today and has some of the most recognized designs. It is also the most commonly counterfeited type of jewelry from Tiffany. Make sure all the logo stamps are centered and spelled correctly with correct spacing between words. Check the fonts of the lettering against the fonts on the Tiffany website. All solder joints should be finished well and not visible. All clasps should be substantial and high quality, and all connecting jump rings should be soldered.
Receipts and Packaging
A receipt for the original purchase of the item is always helpful. Although receipts can be altered or replicated, it is much more labor-intensive and not as likely. A piece that comes with a receipt from the original purchase and the original packaging has a much greater likelihood of being credible and accurate.
Gold Platinum and Gemstone Items
Typically, the metal quality in these items in this category will be 18K gold or 950 platinum. There are a few exceptions of 14k gold from the late 1940s to the early ’50s. The diamonds found in these items will typically be VS clarity or better, I color or better. Again, there are a few exceptions from the earlier years. Later years shouldn’t deviate from this by more than 1 grade. All larger diamonds will be laser inscribed “Since 2004”, and newer pieces will be laser engraved on the star facet. The number engraved inside the shank of the ring will also match the number engraved on the diamond. Gemstones will all be high quality and well-cut.
